# Appear in the answer when someone asks an AI who does what you do

Some of your prospects read the AI Overview at the top of Google, or put their question to ChatGPT or Perplexity before visiting a website. GEO makes your business readable and verifiable for these tools, so that they can cite it.

## It cites what it was able to read and cross-check.

Assistants that search the web query an index, keep a few passages and write their answer from them. If your website is closed to their crawler, ambiguous about who you are or vague about what you do, a competitor gets cited instead of you.

## Actions documented by the platforms themselves.

There is no hidden setting. The work comes down to a few technical tasks, then above all to content that only your own expertise can provide.

### 01. Let the right crawlers in

OpenAI separates OAI-SearchBot, which makes websites appear in ChatGPT search, from GPTBot, used for training: each setting is independent. Perplexity recommends allowing PerplexityBot. We check your robots.txt file, your firewall and how your pages render.

### 02. An unambiguous identity

The same name, activity and contact details on your website, your profiles and in directories. Organization and Service structured data, links to your official profiles. A model that hesitates between two businesses with the same name cites neither.

### 03. Passages that can be quoted

The answer at the top of each section, in two or three sentences. Prices, lead times and conditions when you can give them. Tables rather than paragraphs for comparisons. FAQs drawn from the real questions your customers ask.

### 04. Third-party sources

Assistants cross-check with the press, directories, trade federation pages and comparison sites. We identify the ones they cite on your topics and work on your place in them.

### 05. The SEO foundations

For Google, the rule is public: a page must be indexed and eligible to be shown with a snippet to serve as a link in AI Overviews, with no additional technical requirement. GEO therefore starts with a website that ranks well.

### 06. Measurement

A list of questions your customers ask, replayed every month in ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and AI Overviews. We note whether you are cited, in what position, and who is cited instead of you.

## A citation in ChatGPT cannot be guaranteed.

The answer changes with the wording of the question, the conversation history and the model version. Google already says as much about its own search engine:

> “No one can guarantee a #1 ranking on Google.”

We commit to the work delivered and to an honest measurement of your presence, one reading after another.

## What clients ask us about GEO.

### What is GEO?

GEO, short for Generative Engine Optimization, covers the actions that increase the chances that a generative answer engine (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Google's AI Overviews) cites your business or relies on your pages to answer. It is also called optimisation for AI search engines.

### Does GEO replace SEO?

No, it builds on it. Google states that a page must be indexed and eligible to be shown with a snippet to appear as a link in its AI features. A poorly ranked site has little chance of being cited. GEO adds its own levers: business identity, quotable passages, presence in third-party sources, measurement in assistants.

### Should I block or allow AI crawlers?

It depends on what you want. OpenAI separates its search crawler OAI-SearchBot, which lets you appear in ChatGPT search, from GPTBot, used for training: you can allow one and block the other. Blocking a search crawler removes you from its answers. We review this with you, crawler by crawler.

### Is an llms.txt file useful?

It is a proposed format, not a standard adopted by the major search engines. We can set one up if it is useful for your documentation, but we do not present it as a visibility lever.

### How do you measure visibility in AI assistants?

With a panel of real questions, asked regularly in several assistants, noting whether you are cited, how, and who is cited instead of you. Answers vary from one session to the next: what counts is the trend over several readings, not a single screenshot.

### Can you guarantee that ChatGPT will cite my business?

No, and nobody can. Answers depend on the wording, the context and the model version. What we guarantee is documented work and an honest measurement of your presence.
